Our Philosophy Our programs are designed to provide a gentle transition into the school years and provide a seamless day for those children who attend school and then participate in McMurrich Playschool aftercare program. We believe that the world of child should be one full of opportunities to create and explore in the broadest sense possible. MCPS provides a warm, loving and secure environment in which children get to explore their imaginations and develop their creativity and independence. McMurrich Co-operative Playschool curriculum and teachers are focused on all aspects of a child’s development - social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth are equally supported. Through positive reinforcement, we aim to develop and extend the child’s independence and self-esteem while fostering an understanding of what is socially acceptable. Our duty day volunteers provide the children with the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of adults and broadens their experience.Operations McMurrich is a parent run co-operative; our parents are responsible for everything from purchasing snack to managing the budget. This level of involvement provides parents with a unique opportunity to have direct input into creating the environment they want for their children. Each family assumes an administrative role or job for the duration of the school year. Parents are members of our Board of Directors and committees, and are expected to participate in meetings throughout the year to discuss the operation of the playschool. In addition, one parent or caregiver from each family participates in a monthly duty day at the school, assisting teachers for the morning. Being a part of a co-operative demands time and energy, but the rewards are well worth the investment. The parents at MCPS learn from each other and the experience and develop close and lasting friendships. Governance McMurrich Co-operative Playschool is licensed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. Our school is run by the co-operating families who make up the Board of Directors. MCPS is a member of the Parent Co-operative Preschool Corporation. |
